Self-Advocacy - C.A.R.S. Cougars:

C.A.R.S. supports individuals in yet another way. We encourage individuals to become involved in the Self Advocacy Group in whatever capacity they desire or are able. It is our dream that the Self Advocacy Group will help to build the best quality of life for individuals with disabilities.

Through support and educational opportunities the individuals (with support if necessary) help themselves and others to increase their self-esteem and to recognize the contributions they have to offer. Individuals will be able to share their gifts and talents and grow not only in areas of skill development and self-esteem, but also to become active and valued members in our community.

Social Aspects: Individuals get out and about with their peers; they are supported and encouraged by their peers and are given opportunity to share their expertise, gifts, skills and knowledge.

Community Involvement: Individuals are supported to become involved in our community through clubs, groups, committees, and activities that take them out and get them involved with other members of our community.

Self Esteem: Individuals are supported to plan and host creative ways to share their knowledge, skills and expertise with peers and other members of our community. Individuals will take charge of their own lives and become valued contributing members in our community.

Skills and Knowledge: Individuals are given opportunity to be part of a board and numerous committees. They learn new skills and knowledge from participating in these committees, workshops, conferences and sitting on the Board. Together we work toward becoming valued contributing members of our community by taking part in community activities and events.
