Executive Director
Individuals interested in applying for the Position of Executive Director for Central Alberta Residence Society (CARS) should take some time to familiarize themselves with the characteristics of the community related to this position. In addition to strong administrative and leadership skills, CARS is looking for an individual that demonstrates highly developed social skills such as empathy, compassion, effective communication and conflict management. Emotional awareness and management in working with members of this community is extremely important. In short, CARS is looking for an individual who has the ability to prioritize people’s needs while working within a multifaceted administrative environment.
Applicants moving on to the interview stage should be prepared to discuss the following desirable attributes within the Behavioural Descriptive Interview process.
Effective Communication (verbal/written)
The Executive Director is required to converse with a broad range of individuals or groups including, but not limited to, CARS staff, CARS board of Directors, CARS Clients and related family or support groups as well as government agencies related to CARS. In addition, effective writing skills are necessary to create documents and meet reporting expectations.
Initiative/Strategic Thinking
To be effective as an Executive Director it will be necessary to be aware of the changing needs of clients and staff as well as changes in governing legislation. Utilizing personal initiative to foresee opportunities to further CARS on all levels will be an asset.
Leadership
The Executive Director is responsible for leading a diverse group through many challenges. The leadership style should reflect an ability to establish relationships as a priority, while maintaining professional expectations. Leading by example in areas of ethical and values based behaviour is expected.
Decision Making
The Executive Director must ultimately make decisions that will impact the agency at many or all levels. As such, the Executive Director must be able to demonstrate the ability to analyse issues based on a broad range of information and feedback and be prepared to make a decision for the good of the agency and/ or its clients.
Problem Solving
The Executive Director may ultimately have the last say in disputes and or operational challenges and should be able to create resolution based on consideration of issues from all viewpoints balanced with the needs of the organization.
